Moving into November…
First of all Sam and I just want to thank every one for making our launch day at the beginning of October a great success. It was wonderful to see lots of new people in the studio and current students, coming together to move, breathe and share food (not all at the same time of course).
I’m now back from my two weeks training with Jason Crandell in London. It was a fantastic two weeks, I learnt so much and am really excited to add extra dimensions to my teaching… expect to really use those feet and legs for the next month! You’ll see the feel of some of my classes change slightly as I move more into teaching alignment based Vinyasa Flow. This style moves with the breath at a steady pace with focus on alignment. Come and take practice!
As a team we’re looking forward to offering new styles of yoga, workshops for exploration and we’ll be continuing with the free yoga vibe!

Wellbeing Week 1-3rd November
We are offering two free morning classes over the 3 days at 7.15am and 8.30am. You can book online for all these classes.

Sunday Morning Dharma Yoga classes are here!
We’re super excited to welcome Amy to the team. You may have seen her covering classes over the past month and now she’ll be teaching a regular 75min Sunday class at 10.30am
Dharma Yoga is a spiritually inspiring practice, incorporating the various techniques and teachings from beloved yoga master Sri Dharma Mittra, one of the most devoted yogis of our time.
Amy is completing her 500hr hour training at the Dharma yoga center New York and is excited to be bringing the classes to Leeds Yoga, and hopes to pass on some of the joy she has experienced from this practice.
Dharma classes are energetic yet playful, and there are opportunities for modifications and variations!

Yoga to support emotional balance.
Saturday 25th November 2-4pm
We have all had moments where our emotions have overtaken our rational mind. Where feelings of sadness, anger or grief have been so intense we’ve been unable to function. Maybe you’ve even had these feelings come to the surface during your yoga practice?
This workshop offers you ways to focus on feeling and transforming your emotional response to enable you to live a more balanced life.
I suffered with depression and anxiety for many years yet through my yoga practice i’ve come to a place where I can allow emotion to surface, release it and work with it to create a life which is fulfilling and liberating.
The workshop starts with intention setting, meditation and pranayama (breathing techniques). We shift into dynamic/yang practice to move into the heart space. Then we’ll journey deeper into heart opening and hip opening in a more yin way. We finish with restorative postures, mudra (hand gestures) and meditation to ground, restore and investigate the connection between mind and body.
You’ll leave feeling restored and revived with tools to take away for your personal practice.
Suitable for all levels.
Nourish Your Playful Inner Child
Saturday 1st December 2-4pm
From an early age we are encouraged to find purpose; discover our path by trying various activities, all in the hopes of finding some idea of direction.
Each one aiming to make us stronger, smarter, sharper and all the other attributes one could possibly desire.
Amongst all this searching, we can often miss out on the beauty of simply being. Within this process we all too often lose sight of or
even smother, an all too important part of ourselves.
This piece of the puzzle is our inner child; the wild, free and creatively unhindered aspect that is true joy.
The child within can often be the source of a lot of our unchecked or misunderstood emotions; by embracing and drawing them
forth we can uncover and release a wealth of emotion that lies bottled up deep inside us.
This workshop hopes to expose us to the potential of being truly present and connected. Expect guided meditation, creative drawing, writing and playful movement. Bring your journal and drawing/colouring pens if you have them (equipment will be provided if not) and comfortable clothes to move freely in.
Come join Sam and invite your inner child towards a more active role within your life.
Winter Mini Retreat
Saturday 23rd December 2-4pm
Come join me for a candle lit winter warming, balanced Yin/Yang class.
We’ll spend the first hour practicing a slow alignment based vinyasa flow moving into yummy yin to find stillness and release.
Take a break from the hectic Christmas preparations to focus on self care and leave you clear headed and ready for the festivities.
Tea, cake and light bites will be provided after class.

Next week welcomes in the second round of Leeds well-being week and this time it’s a whole lot bigger. With the event welcoming any business that wishes to participate. Well-being is such a crucial part to our lives; yet is so easily overlooked or put to one side. For this reason we figured it was an opportunity which needed to be explored. Om is a mantra, or vibration, that is traditionally chanted at the beginning and end of yoga sessions. Coming from Hinduism and Yoga, the mantra is considered to have high spiritual and creative power but despite this, it is a mantra that can be recited by anyone. It’s both a sound and a symbol rich in meaning and depth and when pronounced correctly it is actually AUM.
Aum actually consists of four syllables: A, U, M, and the silent syllable.
The first syllable is A, pronounced as a prolonged “awe.” The sound starts at the back of your throat and you stretch it out. You will start feeling your solar plexus and chest vibrating.
The second syllable is U, pronounced as a prolonged “oo,” with the sound gradually rolling forward along your upper palate. You’ll feel your throat vibrate.
The third syllable is M, pronounced as a prolonged “mmmm” with your front teeth gently touching. You will now start to feel the top of your vibrate.
The last syllable is the deep silence of the Infinite. As intelligence rises from the deep silence, you have to merge your chant from the ‘M’ to the deep silence.
Symbolically the three letters embody the divine energy (Shakti) and it’s 3 main characteristics: (1) creation, (2) preservation and (3) liberation.
Why do we chant it?
Everything in the universe is pulsating and vibrating – nothing is really standing still! The sound Om, when chanted, vibrates at the frequency of 432 Hz, which is the same vibrational frequency found throughout everything in nature.
As such AUM is the basic sound of the universe; so by chanting it we are symbolically and physically tuning in to that sound and acknowledging our connection to all other living beings, nature and the universe.
In addition the vibrations and rhythmic pronunciation also have a physical affect on the body by slowing down the nervous system and calming the mind similar to meditation. When the mind is relaxed, your blood pressure decreases and ultimately the health of your heart improves.
Finally it is also a way to delineate the time of our practice from the rest of our day and signify that this is a special time in which to care for ourselves and practice being mindful
All in all, beginning and/or ending your yoga practicing with AUM helps to connects us to our practice in a deeper way than just with physical postures.
